To develop creative thinkers and independent problem solvers through an innovative and challenging instructional programme.
The Aesthetic department comprises Art, Design & Technology (D&T), Music, and Nutrition and Food Science (NFS) instructional units. In 2015, the Art team revamped its Lower Secondary (LS) curriculum to strengthen the focus on observational skills, understanding of the elements and principles of Art as well as incorporated visible thinking in Art Appreciation. Similarly, the D&T team revamped its LS curriculum to focus more on research, analysis and critical thinking skills. The iBand project in Music where students make use of iPads to collaborate in Music making was successfully carried out for the 2nd year running. The NFS team also worked to enhance the Upper Secondary Coursework processes.
Some of the highlights for 2015 for the department include ‘Arts Discovery’ and ‘Arts Fiesta’- Art and Music enrichment workshop for the entire Secondary 1 and Secondary 3 respectively. For the art enrichment programme, students were exposed to art forms such as Batik painting, pottery, metal tooling and printmaking. For the music enrichment programme, students learnt about the ukulele, guitar, singing, and working with mobile applications. One group of Secondary 3 D&T students led by Mr Vincent Fong won the Merit award in the Toy design competition organised by Singapore Polytechnic. Another group of Secondary 2 NFS students led by Ms Siti Fattasha participated in the Assumption Pathway School (APS) Baking Challenge and received the Finalist trophy. Congratulations to our students and teachers!
The Art programme at Upper Secondary specializes in Painting and Digital Graphic Design.
