Values-in-Action (ViA) is a key platform for nurturing our CCKSians' character and to help them imbibe the school value of 'Putting Others Before Self'. The ViA programme is a multi-tiered one, including school-wide ViA, ViA carried out by CCA and classes, and student-initiated ViA.
School Wide ViA
Staff and students embarked on a school-wide Values in Action (VIA) activity which was held on 25 March, from 8am to 12pm. During the event, everyone worked together to collect old clothing and newspapers from the neighbourhood of Teck Whye and Choa Chu Kang. This year, parents were also invited to join their children in this meaningful activity. The event was a great success, bringing to fore the school’s value of ‘Putting Others Before Self’.
Secondary Two Overseas ViA Trip
A total of 260 Sec 2 students went on an overseas educational/ViA trip to Malaysia, Johor Bahru on 22 May 2014. The objectives of the ViA is as follow:
- To develop global awareness and cross-cultural skills/sensitivities through cultural exchange and service learning projects in the host country
- To allow students to understand the importance of teamwork and provide opportunities for them to demonstrate the school value of “Putting Others Before Self”
- To reinforce the importance of resilience and perseverance
Students engaged in activities such as hands-on batik printing, visit to the Pewter Factory and spent the afternoon carrying out the service learning projects that they have planned at a local orphanage in the afternoon. Through the activity, students gained a new dimension of experiences and is also certainly a good platform for them to demonstrate their leadership qualities and teamwork.
