Band is one of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) CCAs in the school. One objective of a VPA CCA is to provide opportunities for students to develop a lifelong passion for the arts. A VPA CCA also nurtures students’ creative expression, enriches their social, cultural and historical awareness, and builds character.
Chua Chu Kang Concert Band aims to provide a platform for like-minded individuals to make music together and establish friendships that last a lifetime. Students receive free music theory lessons and learn a musical instrument from our dedicated music instructor during band practices. The band offers students many opportunities such as camps and leadership workshops to develop leadership skills and grow into confident leaders. Students graduate from the band with a greater sense of group discipline and esprit de corps.
The band plays an important role within the school, always heard and seen performing at major school functions such as the school’s Speech Day and National Day celebration. A parade is never complete without the band providing music for it.
The band represented the school during the 2015 Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation for Concert Bands and has done the school proud by obtaining a Certificate of Accomplishment. The band also had the opportunity to attend concerts by local professional music groups such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
The band also actively contributes back to the community through organising and participating in Values in Action (VIA) projects yearly. Students enjoy themselves greatly while learning the joy of giving and helping the less fortunate. The band is currently preparing for a public performance, Music in the City, which will be held in 2016 at Ngee Ann City. Public performances give students a platform to display their musical talents as well as allowing students to connect with the community while sharing their love for music-making.
