Community Service Club

Teachers-in-charge: Mdm Latifah (I/C), Ms Nur Aini, Ms Sim Mei Hui Theresa

Cabin Club is the only CCA in Singapore associated and supported by a leading social service organisation, that is the Singapore Children’s Society (SCS). Cabin was started in CCKSS as a formal C

CA in 2004.

The objectives of Cabin Club are:

1) to develop self-awareness and acquire life skills to enrich  their well-being

2) to feel a sense of belonging to the Cabin Club through peer interaction and peer support

3) to nurture a sense of care, empathy and compassion for others

Our mission statement for Cabin Club is “Care for the self, the school and the larger community”.

Cabin Club encompasses these three areas: A) Cabin Drop-in Centre, B) Environment Thrust and C) Project Sphere.

Cabin Drop-in Centre

Cabin Drop-In Centre aims to cover various aspects of preventive, developmental and remedial work in the school setting. The drop-in centre provides a conducive venue for the students to hang out after their school hours. Instead of hanging around the shopping centres, void decks and lan shops, they can now meet their friends in the Cabin and participate in activities organised by the club. This enables them to occupy their time meaningfully.

Environment Thrust

Since 2014, members of Cabin Club have undertaken environmental projects. The Cabin members acted as Environmental Ambassadors to spread the message of environmental conservation in the school as well as the surrounding neighbourhood. The Cabin members have also actively taken part in the Mozzie wipe-out organised by the Choa Chu Kang CC hosted by Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong. The Cabin active participation also ensured that CCKSS sustained the Green School @Southwest CDC (Gold Award) as well as the Sustainable Lotus Award for the Green Audit.

Project Sphere

Project SPHERE is a community programme jointly initiated by the Housing & Development Board (HDB), with support from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Singapore Pools. Our school has adopted a group of elderly residing at an HDB rental flat at Blk 9 Teck Whye Lane and has worked towards enriching their lives by organising community activities. Through SPHERE, we hope to promote the spirit of volunteerism among the younger generation to care for the elderly, encourage community bonding through HDB's physical planning of towns/estates and facilitate interaction among young and old Singaporeans, and to bridge the gap between young and old Singaporeans through social activities to promote better understanding and experience-sharing among them.
